Academic Mentorship
What is Academic Mentoring?
Mentoring is a dynamic process where an experienced individual, the mentor, offers guidance, advice, and support to your child, the mentee. Unlike a teacher or tutor, a mentor focuses on holistic academic development, enabling children to nurture their intellectual curiosity, develop essential life skills, and prepare for key milestones, such as senior school or university entrance interviews. Acting as a trusted advisor, the mentor provides insights and encouragement that empower your child to build confidence and independence. Through personalised guidance and support, mentoring complements your child’s formal education, enabling them to navigate challenges and seize opportunities during their time in the UK.
The Benefits of Academic Mentoring Academic
Mentorship plays a crucial role in keeping students on track academically while they are far from home. Our mentors are dedicated professionals who not only guide students in maintaining their academic progress but also inspire them to become intellectually curious, ambitious, and goal oriented. By helping students set clear objectives and holding them accountable, our mentors foster a culture of achievement and growth. Securing a place at a prestigious UK independent school is a challenging and highly competitive process. At Aurora, we recognise that this achievement marks only the beginning of a student’s educational journey abroad. Please note that academic mentorship is included exclusively in our premium package and is not offered as a standalone service.
What does a mentoring session involve?

Mentoring sessions typically last about one hour per month, often conducted online. During these sessions, the mentor engages your child in meaningful discussions about their goals, challenges, and aspirations. Each session is tailored to the student’s unique needs and may include:
  • Setting academic and personal goals to foster ambition and focus.
  • Providing academic support, including effective study strategies and time management tips.
  • Encouraging academic stretch through discussions on topics of interest or current affairs.
  • Interview preparation for new schools or universities.
  • Career advice, such as exploring university options, work experience, or internships.
The mentor also helps your child reflect on their experiences, identify areas for growth, and take proactive steps to achieve their goals. Academic mentoring equips your child with the tools they need to thrive during their educational journey in the UK.

University Success Programme
Pursuing an undergraduate degree in the UK is an exciting milestone in the educational journey of many international students. However, this process can also be overwhelming for students and their families. Securing a place at a top UK university is a significant challenge, and it is only the beginning of the journey. Long-term success requires careful planning, both before and during university, to ensure students reach their full potential. At Aurora, we provide premium support to guide students through every stage of this journey. At the application stage, we offer expert guidance to help students navigate the competitive UK university admissions process, from course selection and profile development to preparing personal statements, entrance exams, and interviews.
Once students are enrolled at a UK university, we continue to support them through our mentorship programme, helping them thrive academically, socially, and professionally. Many international students face challenges in adjusting to rigorous academic expectations, communicating effectively in English, managing their schedules independently, and preparing for future career opportunities. Without the right tools and guidance, students risk underperforming academically, struggling socially, or failing to make the most of their degree.
Our mentorship programme bridges this gap by providing personalised support throughout the university journey. Whether students need help with study skills, career planning, or adapting to university life, we ensure they have the resources and confidence to succeed. With Aurora, students and their families can feel reassured that they are supported at every step - from gaining admission to flourishing during their university years.
The University Success Programme is divided into two key services:
University Application Support
Our University Application Support service is designed to guide students as they navigate the competitive UK university admissions process. Starting in the summer before UK Year 12, this service helps students:
  • Plan academic and extracurricular journeys to develop a strong candidate profile.
  • Receive expert guidance for Oxbridge applications or specialist subjects, such as medicine or law.
  • Explore potential university courses.
  • Prepare for entrance requirements such as personal statements, admissions tests, and interviews.
Our bespoke support equips students with the tools and guidance they need to maximise their chances of securing offers from their target universities.
Our University Mentorship Support service is tailored to students already enrolled at UK universities, helping them thrive academically, socially, and professionally. This service addresses the unique challenges of university life, including academic pressures, independent living, and career preparation.
Each year, the mentorship programme runs in parallel with the university academic calendar. Students meet with their Success Coach for regular face-to-face sessions, either at the university or a nearby location. Success Coaches provide personalised guidance in areas such as:
  • Developing effective study skills, routines, and exam techniques
  • Managing coursework, projects, and deadlines.
  • Engaging with university resources, including societies and career services
  • Planning for internships, work experience, and postgraduate opportunities
Our coaches also act as a 'triage' service, connecting students with additional specialist support when needed, such as academic tutoring or mental health services. Families receive detailed written reports after each session, which will be translated, if necessary, into their preferred language.
For students pursuing postgraduate study, we offer an add-on application support service to help them research, shortlist, and apply to appropriate programmes.
University Mentorship Support
We welcome families at any stage of the university journey, starting with a complimentary consultation involving both the student and their family. This meeting allows us to gain a comprehensive understanding of the student’s academic needs, interests, concerns, and aspirations – both personal and professional. With these insights, we carefully match each student with the most suitable Success Coach. Since every student’s journey is unique, we work closely with families to develop a tailored roadmap that aligns with the student’s individual goals.

This uniquely qualified team is divided into two groups: Success Coaches and Specialist Tutors, each playing a crucial role in guiding students through the application process and supporting their university journey.

They continue their support as university mentors, meeting in person with students to provide ongoing guidance throughout their degree.
Specialist Tutors, who are subject leaders in their field, offer rigorous academic preparation for competitive applications, such as Oxbridge or specialist subjects (for example Medicine or Law) and provide one-to-one tutoring for university students, ensuring they excel in their chosen courses.

“When I first arrived in the UK at the age of fourteen, I was filled with confusion and uncertainty. But the guardianship team embraced me with genuine warmth, offering much more than just support for daily life. Their care provided me with a sense of security and trust that helped me overcome the challenges of adapting to a new culture. Every interaction I had made me feel respected and understood. From the diverse activities to the small, happy moments we shared, it felt like a deep, soulful connection, not just a routine arrangement. Tina not only provided academic guidance but also taught me how to manage my emotions and face the future with confidence. This experience was more than just an academic journey – it was a life-changing adventure that helped me rediscover the importance of emotions, relationships, and personal growth."
Shaun - Aldenham School
“Tina has been my guardian since 2021, and from this point onwards, she has always been attentive to my physical and mental health. Even though she is far away from my school, she has still helped me hugely. When I first arrived in the UK, my trip back to China was very challenging, and even though it was the middle of the night in the UK, she responded quickly to my messages. Over the past four years, we have gone through a lot together, and I feel that she is my support in the UK. I am very grateful to Tina for making me feel like I have a second home in the UK.”
